This photograph expresses the silent suffering of an anonymous college girl from a district town; her with long hair covering the face to protect her identity but the clenched fist also showed her resilience. It is representative of the sorrow of many women who were tortured by the Pakistani Army in their camps. These women, seen as ‘fallen women’ by society and their families, were condemned to live in the shadow of shame, until the formal recognition as ‘Beeranganas’.
